I knew from a young age that I wanted to be a Kindergarten teacher.  I come from a large family that descends from both New Zealand and Samoa ethnicity. I believe that every child is unique and the face of the future. And by working in collaboration with families, educators and the community we are providing them with the right tools and directions for lifelong learning. Every child leads an amazing and unique journey in life.

I have a warm, friendly, loving and compassionate personality, but I am also firm but fair. I believe in modelling and guiding children’s behaviour and etiquette, and also providing the age appropriate developmental resources for each child’s learning experiences and challenges. I believe this will expand on their growing potential and confidence.  I am a committed, honest and hard-working individual with the confidence to problem solve, and actively implement the NQS, EYLF, Early Childhood Australia’s Code of Ethics, United Nation Convention on the Rights of the Child and Early Childhood Services policies, practices, procedures and guidelines

I do consider myself a little bit of a foodie and love cooking and especially trying new and interesting foods. I speak Maori, Samoan and English

I am a serial learner whether that be through my various external studies or in my home life as a mom of two children. I am constantly looking to learn more as the more I have, the more I can give to my children and students.

Olivia is a mother of two children and is enthusiastic about providing support to families of all backgrounds and empowering them in raising their children.

Here are some highlights of Olivia’s personal philosophy:
Positive relationships with children is a top priority in early childhood settings.
Educators’ interactions with all children are to be respectful, warm, responsive, timely and sensitive.
The whole child approach is fundamental in early childhood education. Each
child’s body, mind, and spirit are to be seen as a whole, not as separated parts.
A Co-constructed curriculum makes learning more relevant and meaningful for children. Curriculum, which includes everything that happens in an early childhood setting, is to be made with children, not for children.
Integrated teaching enables children to learn effectively. Children are capable and unique individuals, with various strengths, multiple intelligence, and preferred ways of learning.
Two-way partnership with families is critical for successful early education.
Educators only see the whole picture of a child within the social and cultural context of the child’s family and community.
Nurturing physical environment is a silent teacher in early childhood settings. A well designed physical environment includes comfortable lighting, connection with nature, high quality learning materials, sufficient space, thoughtful furniture arrangement, appropriate grouping of children, accessible and open-ended resources, appropriate level of risks and challenges, flexible routine, large blocks of time for deep learning, honourable display of children’s work and documentation, and aesthetically pleasing decorations.
